Correction Regarding AACI and Mercaz Hamagshimims Job Fair
Correction Regarding AACI and Mercaz Hamagshimim's Job Fair 2 Last week I told you about the job fair at the Mercaz on October 18th. On Israel-Job-Opps (one of JobMob's recommended Yahoo Groups for Israeli job hunting), Jason Freedman had some questions about the fair being limited to the 19-35 age group, so I spoke with fair co-sponsor AACI at their National Office in Jerusalem. AACI's Answers Although mentioned in the original release from the Mercaz, the job fair is not being held in conjunction with AACI. AACI does have its own job fairs, usually timed with Nefesh B'Nefesh arrivals of olim. AACI job fairs are open to all ages provided that you are a member of the association. You can become a member now. Although not free, the cheapest level of membership is just over NIS 100 and gives you access to many other services and events, like AACI's Employment Services. There is no date set yet for the next AACI job fair. Would you be interested in a no-age-limit job fair? Did that clear things up?

Are You Bad At Management The Common Traits - Classy Career Girl
Are You Bad At Management The Common Traits Management is one thing we will find ourselves doing at one point or another, be it the management of a home, or within your chosen career path. You may even have to manage your boss. This makes it highly important that, at the very least, we are able to understand where we might be going wrong when managing, even if we never get to manage more than ten people at a time. There are many articles detailing the best managerial practices, however, to really stand out you must be able to understand how your personality fits in with these guidelines. Many personality traits we consider to be acceptable are actually highly counterproductive in management, and by the end of this article, you will be able to properly identify these traits and work on them so you can get better results. Here are some of the more common Bad Manager traits. The Worst Managers Do Not Know How Bad They Are. Are You One of Them? 1. You Take On All the Responsibility and Refuse to Delegate A manager must be able to assess the people he or she is working with and properly identify their strengths and weaknesses. This is an incredibly invaluable aspect of management because when you donât delegate, your direct reports will feel like you do not value them enough or that you can handle everything on your own. Ultimately, productivity will suffer, as seen in this article. 2. You Ignore Minor Problems to Cut Costs In management, even the smallest hitch in productivity needs to be as addressed as quickly as possible. Trying to save money by ignoring the problem may eventually end up creating more problems than you could have ever imagined having in the first place. 3. You are Impatient and Result Oriented Being result oriented is a great trait to have as an individual, and even as a manager, too. But, when youre too focused on the bottom line and not on the process leading up to it, it is highly likely that the people you are managing will become unhappy as they will begin to cut corners to finish work that they ended up producing under duress. In management, it is essential to be patient, but firm. [RELATED: 3 Types of Bad Managers] 4. You Use Abusive or Inappropriate Words As individuals, we all have different quirks and ways of expressing ourselves, most of which are picked up from our friends and immediate family. Sometimes some of these words we say unconsciously may be too endearing for a workplace environment or even too abusive. It is important that managers watch their language while in a working environment, as it can be perceived as workplace bullying. The last thing you want is for your motivational language to lead you into a meeting with HR. 5. You Constantly Look For Mistakes People make mistakes in life. Its just one of those facts that canât be undone. We all have our off days, so if someone makes a mistake, a dramatic manhunt isnât likely to do anyone any favors. If your company has a professional insurance plan, most forms of human error are likely to be covered. When errors do happen, educate and train so it doesnât happen again. Your bosses and employees will be grateful for the help. Having a personality trait that conflicts with management is not a bad thing. In fact, once you manage to identify it, it becomes easier to deal with it and this eventually transforms you into a better manager. A key phrase to remember is that you and your employees all have a common goal. Praise people who do a good job. If people make mistakes, coming down on them like a ton of bricks isnât going to help anyone. As a manager, it is your role to nurture talent, identify problems, and resolve them. Donât get lost on a power trip. Help those who are juniors to your position work towards the goals of the wider business.

An Interview With Ben Jordan of Headline Talent Agency - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
An Interview With Ben Jordan of Headline Talent Agency - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I recently had the pleasure to sit down with Ben Jordan, a Junior Agent at Headline Talent Agency based in New York City. Ben told me about his experience working at this agency, what it takes to stay ahead of the curb, and what attributes one needs to be a successful Talent Agent in this competitive field. Christian Roberts: How did you know that you wanted to become an agent? Ben Jordan: I went to college at University of Alabama where I studied Political Science. While I was there, I made a lot of good friends who were into the local music scene, friends who played music. Before I knew it, I found myself immersed in the music community. I went to a ton of shows, hosted shows at the coffeehouse that I ran, and even help put on packed house party concerts at my home. I particularly remember one show where in the middle of the set, the lead singer called out to me thanking me for being part of all this. The community in Tuscaloosa was small, but was packed to the brim in talent. A lot of those guys are doing big things now. This experience really left a huge mark on my life. So after graduation I moved to New York (because thatâs what you do when you graduate and have no clue what you want to do next) and here I found myself drawn back to the music scene, but it was a whole different ball game. It was much more cutthroat. There were fewer opportunities for budding talent and all in all less interest from the locals. I took some time to just exist and work and soon enough, I became very close friends with a stand-up comedian and it was there at his first show that I saw that I felt the thirst. I felt the desire to immerse myself into the business of entertainment. The first internship I applied for was where I am now. Headline Talent Agency. Roberts: How long until you became a Junior Agent? Jordan: The day I started interning at Headline, I knew that it was a natural fit. The speed of it, the intensity of it, the personal service that is demanded of me, that was something I really felt inspiring. I was hired on as an assistant after a few months, and a year after that, I was promoted to Junior Agent. With becoming a Junior Agent, I have taken on much more responsibilities. My day to day is typically a ton of pitching (On phone and email), developing clients brands, information gathering, and even some negotiating of deals with the owner of Headline overseeing my work. Roberts: There are a lot of talent agencies in New York City. What makes Headline Talent stand out? Jordan: Headline Talent was founded by Erica Bines who has worked for such companies as United Talent Agency and for the CEO of The WB. The other Senior Agent at Headline, Lisa Lawrence started out in advertising and then worked for the Vice President of Motion Picture Talent at William Morris-Endeavor. Having worked at the big agencies, Erica and Lisa came to the conclusion that they wanted a more hands-on approach to the business. They wanted to foster a small roster of incredibly talented actors who they can develop into super stars. We only sign people that we can have a personal connection with. Actors that we understand what they are about outside of what they can do on stage or screen. When you have that connection, I truly believe that you can more effectively pitch them and their brand. Many other boutique agencies in New York take on hundreds of clients and mainly just submit them online. We want our actors to feel that they are being developed and pitched in a proactive way. This is simply impossible unless you keep a small roster of unique individuals. From day one, I was trained to pick up the phone and be fearless. We cover projects and casting offices in New York, Los Angeles, Canada, and everywhere in between. Outside of the US, we have clients in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mexico, etc. We do not limit ourselves to the opportunities. Also, very important to our success has been the structure of our office. Typically at an agency, each agent has their own clients they handle. At Headline, we share all of the clients, and instead divide up the projects. Because of this, every one of our clients have three agents covering them at all times. Roberts: How do you guys stay ahead of the game? Jordan: We are constantly paying attention to what is being developed and what is selling. There are over 50 television shows being shot in New York. These numbers are skyrocketing. Also, there is the online content phenomenon. These talent powerhouses are developing crowd pleasing concepts from their living rooms. These concepts are being made into tv shows and film. We are not looking to fill our roster with people who can just play certain roles; we are looking for people who can create something different and truly entertaining. It is our responsibility to keep aware of the ever changing tides and approach the business with an open mind. Roberts: What are some words of wisdom you can give to people who want to become agents or actors? Jordan: If you want to be an agent, be ready to start at the bottom and be prepared to hear âNoâ a lot. Success does not happen overnight and your previous experience means very little, if anything at all. This is also true of being an actor. As Erica, the owner of Headline, frequently says, âyou are as only good as your next jobâ. You are your own business. Donât ever sit around and wait for the opportunities to come to you. For the actor, the most important advice I can give you is- you can never truly play someone else if you do not truly know who you are. Before you can paint the picture, you have to know and respect the canvas. For the future agents, my advice is that you should never represent an actor that you donât truly believe in. From your first day of interning to retirement, you cannot sell something that you do not believe in whole heartily. And, for Godâs Sake, be fucking fearless.

What to do if your flight is delayed More often than not, our flights go without a hitch â" we arrive at the airport, go through security, wait to board, and then take off to our destination at the anticipated time. Flights over 1500km For delayed flights over 1500km, easyjet will provide you with refreshment vouchers for every 3 hours of your delay. If they arenât able to provide vouchers, they will reimburse you £3 or â¬4.50 in non-UK airports per person, for every 2 hours delayed. Again, youâll need to provide the relevant receipts and alcohol cannot be claimed for. After a 3-hour delay you are also entitled to 2 emails, phone calls or fax messages. Delays over 5 hours If your easyjet flight is delayed for longer than 5 hours, you can opt to cancel your flight and receive a full refund, or ask for the airline to rearrange your flight for a later date. Overnight delays Accommodation If your flight is delayed overnight, easyjet will arrange overnight accommodation. However, they do state that, in the event they are unable to do so, they will ask you to book your own accommodation and then they will reimburse you. The airlineâs terms and conditions state that they are happy to cover clean, comfortable, mid-range overnight accommodation in hotel brands such as Premier Inn, Ibis, Holiday Inn, Travelodge and Motel-One, who typically charge up to £85 per night. If you chose to spend more than this when these types of hotels are available, they will not reimburse you the difference. Food Easyjet will arrange for the hotel to provide you with an evening meal (excluding alcohol) as well as breakfast. If youâve been asked to find your own hotel, they will reimburse you up to £25 per person per day to cover food and drink. Make sure you keep your receipts! Travel The easyjet ground crew or the hotel will provide transport between the hotel and the airport. In the event that the airline is not able to provide this service, their TCs state that they will cover taxis, buses, or local metro services to and from the airport. They will not, however, cover unreasonable travel costs such as limos! Again, make sure you keep all of your receipts. Communication Easyjet states that it will reimburse you for the cost of up to two phone calls to allow you to rearrange your travel plans. Making your claim When it comes to making your claim, you have two options. You can either contact the airline directly and submit your claim to them, along with any supporting evidence such as receipts, tickets, etc. Alternatively, you can use a company such as Flight Delay Claims 4 U, who will make the claim for you on a no win, no fee basis, saving you the hassle!

Everything you need to know about psychometric tests
Everything you need to know about psychometric tests Applying for graduate jobs can be stressful and hard letâs not sugar coat it. The process is often long and competition is fierce; and now, some graduate employers have started implementing psychometric tests. We know what youâre thinking: what on earth is a psychometric test?! Donât fret weâre here to help dispel the myths surrounding psychometric tests and put your mind at ease. What is a psychometric test? Putting it simply, psychometric tests measure aspects of your mental ability and personality to determine if youâre a good fit for a role and company. The word actually relates to a branch of psychology known as psychometry, which basically focuses on the measurement of mental states and processes. They test intelligence, aptitude, cognitive ability and personality to extract information about a candidate that a standard face-to-face interview may not. Psychometric tests are rarely used in isolation; when applying for a job you will more than likely still go through the usual application process sending over a CV and cover letter, filing in an application form, having a face-to-face interview etc. but a psychometric test may well form part of the final hurdle before being offered a job. Why are psychometric tests used? No matter what you might think, they are not included in the recruitment process simply to freak you out. Psychometric tests are unique in their ability to reveal a candidateâs suitability for a role. They can provide an objective and unique measure of your intelligence and personality, but they are also useful when it comes to reducing HR and recruitment costs, as they ensure hiring professionals only spend time interviewing the best of the best. They also help avoid high employee turnover as they can actually improve your experience in a company. Candidates can rest assured that if they have successfully passed through the recruitment process, including a psychometric test, and been offered a job at the end of it, then it means they are not only a good fit for the role and company, but perfectly suited in every aspect. With the recruitment process now so rigorous and competitive, businesses are looking for new ways to ensure the best fit for them makes it through, so despite how scary a psychometric test may seem, they are used for your benefit. What can I expect from a psychometric test? They are generally split into two main parts: aptitude tests and personality tests. Aptitude tests: These tests assess your reasoning and intelligence levels. They generally include tests such as numerical, spatial and verbal reasoning, as well as error checking and potentially abstract reasoning, too. You will usually have a set amount of time to sit these tests and will get an objective score at the end of it. As there are distinct right and wrong answers for these tests, timing and accuracy are crucial in being successful. Personality tests: These are a little more complicated, as they attempt to turn a candidatesâ thoughts, feelings and behaviours into a score that can be measured quantitatively despite there technically being no right or wrong answer. You will usually be presented with different statements, and potentially some bizarre questions, detailing different scenarios and actions you could take or feelings you may have, and be asked to select an answer truthfully. These rarely have a time limit and arenât often undertaken in exam conditions. The answers are often presented on a scale of agreement or disagreement, in which you must answer truthfully. How can I prepare? Each of the above two sections of a psychometric test require a very different approach to revision. Aptitude tests: there are plenty of practice tests online that you can do, and practice does make perfect when it comes to these types of tests. These are usually done online, rather than on paper, so finding and completing some on the internet will stand you in good stead for the real deal. You may be presented with graphs, tables, charts and almost definitely a LOT of numbers, as well as short passages of text you may need to analyse. So get yourself used to all of these with lots of research. Also be sure to read instructions carefully and have any equipment you may need to hand a calculator (if youâre allowed), pens, rough paper and a watch so you know how much time has passed. Personality tests: Calculators will almost definitely not be needed here, and your approach to a personality test should be very different. Whilst it is advisable to seek out practice personality tests online, it is impossible to tell what questions and scenarios you will be presented with when you get down to it. The best approach is to take a deep breath and take your time as stated previously these are rarely timed and there are no right or wrong answers, so itâs best to stay calm, read the instructions carefully and remain honest. Taking the test in a quiet environment is best. It is also important to carefully read the job description in question and really analyse what kind of person they are looking for beforehand, so you have an inkling as to what the questions may relate to. 19 Small Work Wins You Should Be Celebrating
19 Small Work Wins You Should Be Celebrating While you may not think theyâre a big deal, itâs important to celebrate your small wins. Small wins help you change your habits and keep you motivated at your job. They emphasize setting goals so you can feel the joy of your accomplishments more often. Itâs time to start celebrating these small wins at work. 1. Gaining Acknowledgement If you get praised for a job well done, thatâs something you should be recognizing. While it isnât something you should go around bragging about at work, tell your significant other or best friend over happy hour. Promotions or pay raises deserve a full-on dinner or party! Save the email or write down what was said to you as well. Itâs something you want to be able to look at if youâre having a down day in the future. 2. Being Productive There are some days at work where you just struggle to be motivated. But on the days when you know you got a good, productive day in, itâs good to take note of that. Maybe jot down what you did that day so you can replicate it again. Let yourself relax a little when you get home â" you deserve it. 3. Keeping Your Cool When work gets hectic, itâs easy to get overwhelmed and have a meltdown. It happens to the best of us. When you manage to get through an extra stressful day without letting it get the best of you, itâs time to treat yourself. When you get home, pour a glass of wine and watch an episode of that show youâve been meaning to catch up on. 4. Giving That Big Presentation Youâve been preparing for weeks, and all that hard work is finally paying off. Presentations can be nerve-wracking, so itâs especially important to celebrate if youâre someone who struggles with them. Encourage your future self â" put a reminder on your online calendar so next year on this day youâll remember it happened, and you know youâll be able to get through the next one. 5. Helping out Someone Else The act of helping itself could make you feel good, but you should also celebrate going out of the way to help others. Assisting someone with their project or something theyâre struggling with is a great thing to do. If you helped someone be successful in the office, take them out for lunch or do something to commemorate it. That way, you both get the advantages of a small win. 6. Fixing That Difficult Problem Youâve been trying to fix that issue in your assignment for weeks, and you finally cracked it! Write an interesting blog post about your process and how you fixed it. That way, you can share it with others and also have it written down in case you run into the situation again. 7. Learning a New Skill Learning should always be celebrated. Show off that skill and be proud that youâve learned something new and donât have to ask for help to do it. You can celebrate this by building on what youâve learned. Practice a new, fun skill outside of work that youâve always wanted to learn. 8. Making Yourself Heard Too often, we donât give our input during the latest conference call or office meeting. Speak up and share your ideas with the company â" you might have something they havenât thought of. Celebrate with a little jam session at your desk (with headphones of course) after you go back to the regular workday. 9. Handling That Problem Client/Customer/Coworker Unfortunately, we canât completely avoid difficult people at work. It may not always be easy to handle them gracefully, which is all the more reason to reward yourself when you do. Go for a jog or do a workout and get all your pent-up frustration out over dealing with them. The real reward comes when you treat yourself after. 10. Accomplishing a Long-Term Goal If you have a list of goals you want to accomplish, itâs a big deal when you finally reach one of them â" even if it is small. Give yourself a little break after this. You deserve a breather. 11. Standing up for Yourself While you have to follow the rules of the higher-ups, thereâs no reason to be treated like a doormat. Standing up for yourself and commanding some respect takes a lot of courage. Treat yourself to a mini spa or relaxation day after you come down from the adrenaline high of taking charge. 12. Coming in Early â" by Choice Some of us can barely get out of bed to get to work at the normal time. If you can get up, get ready for the day and head to work early, you deserve major props. If coming in early means you get to leave early, use that extra time to do something youâve been meaning to do but havenât had time for. 13. Being Excited About the Work Youâre Doing 70% of Americans are unhappy with their jobs. Thatâs a lot of people. If youâre one of the few who are actively engaged and happy with your job, then you should relish every minute of it. Celebrate the fact that you really enjoy what youâre doing. Bring in donuts for your department or suggest a lunch with your team and show that you appreciate them. 14. Getting a New Office/Cubicle/Desk Whether itâs from a promotion, redoing the office or someone leaving, getting a new workspace is exciting. It helps break up the monotony of a typical day. Use the opportunity to decorate the new space completely differently from the old one so you can mix things up. 15. Landing an Awesome New Client Whether you were instrumental in getting the client to choose your company or just get to work on their project, landing a new client can be something to be happy about. If a new client gets you excited, itâs a safe bet that the work you do for them is going to be engaging and epic. Share the news with those closest to you so they can share in your excitement. 16. Finding a New Technique Weâre always looking for more efficient ways to do things. If you found a feature hidden in software that makes tasks super easy or coded a new program that runs things better, thatâs always a big deal. Use one of your vacation days and take some time off, you know, now that your work takes a bit less time. 17. Making It Through a Mountain of Tasks If you came back from the weekend with a giant pile of files on your desk to deal with, itâs going to feel pretty overwhelming. But, when you finally make it through all that work, itâs going to feel amazing! Hit the mall after work for that shirt youâve been eyeing to put the cherry on top of the day. 18. Getting a Cool New Coworker Working with someone you really mesh with is incomparable and usually pretty rare. Invite them to the group happy hour your department usually has on Friday nights so they feel included and can get in on the tradition. 19. Someone Catering Lunch Thereâs nothing better than going to the break room for those leftovers youâre dreading and seeing that your boss bought lunch for the day. Even if youâre dieting, indulge. Make that your cheat day. Itâs something you have to take advantage of! Sometimes, the little things can mean the most. Are there any small wins that you love celebrating? Comment below!
